Hot and Heavy Age of Sigmar

With the start of the Age of Sigmar league, I have been throwing down a lot of AoS. We started with seven players, plus myself, so looking good. I have even gotten my kids roped in.

All in all, I like the system. The sudden death missions are a no go. We have played around with South Coast GT missions, from the UK, and they seem fun. They force the harder armies to come out and play, which is definitely a good thing.

I have played the "broken" Lord Kroak, and lost. Not because he is over awesome, but because I had a bad list. And with no objective,he was able to castle up, and I just couldn'tm crack it. Missing most of my charges, repeatedly, also didn't help.

I have also played the super summoning, but found that it plays much the 8th ed Daemon summoning. Yep, you have TONS of models, but you haven't done anything.

I also have found that list building is still a thing. There are several point systems out there. Strategy is still a thing. No, there aren't any formations, but how many other games without formations do we play.

We have had some haters. But I think he hates just to hate. Or to gloss over his two losses in his first two games. Cause that means anything.

It still feel fantasy. Tomb Kings feel pre 8th ed., even though they have been squatted. I will continue to play them. I am also looking about pulling out my Night Goblins from ancient times. Ogre, however, sit in limbo. They just don't seem fun. Ogre smash! But I will eventually give them a try, because that is what it is all about, after all.

Until next time, and hopefully sooner than last time.

Gaming Update

Just wanted to drop a quick line about my gaming. It is still happening, honest. Yesterday, I head down, planning to play some AoS(yep, still a thing), but a father and son showed up, looking to play in a tournament. That was last week. As I was the only one there, I volunteered to play a game. I suggested a three way, but the father wanted one on one. So, I set up my Punishing One, Hawk, M3-A list. Its not, but it is fun to play. I am getting a bit bored with it, but it was ready to go. He was running Poe, the Ghost, and the transport. His list is very likely better than mine. I also forgot half of the things I had changed about the list however many weeks earlier. I did damage, but he did more. The Hawk went first, the Manaroo, but then, i trying to R2-D2 Poe's shields back, he allowed my Interceptor to tag behind, until he made a mistake, which meant Poe left the table. It also put me in line to finish the Ghost, but not before he dropped the Phantom. Unfortunately, i that fight, the M3-A with Mangler is just better, and was lined up better. We began to joust, he decided it was a bad idea, and tried to run. I just followed behind and finished it.

Shea had shown up and played the father. I don't know how that went, but I think he wanted to try his hand at my "awesome" flying ability. He was running a TIE swarm of like 5 or 6 plus Howlrunner. Before we even started, I knew I wasn't going to win without some super luck. I don't have the shots to take out a swarm. I do have the experience to level things, though. First up, Howlrunner. Easy peezy. Next, its just who can kill the most first. If I lose ships, I lose firepower. If he loses ships, he still has firepower. As it was, I lost faster. In the end, he won.

After that I played Shea in AoS, but it was weeks ago, I don't remember the specifics. I think the Necrosphinx happened and I won. 'nuff said.

Another Gameless Weekend

Okay, not really. While I didn't get any full games, I did dip my toe into a couple of games my sons were playing. I have also been banned from using my Tomb Scorpions against them as well as my Necrosphinx. Yeah, that will happen.

The big news from the weekend, however, was the X Wing tournament. We had eight people. Half of whom were not regular or just semi-regular. I was running the show, hence the lack of games played. It went very well, though I didn't get a championship pack, which upset more tha a few. I am not overly worried about it, since those who seemed upset didn't win anyway.

I must add that I was supremely disappointed with the clubs efforts. With one exception, they were all out of the first place running after the first round. Luckily, Collin was unwilling to let the torch fall, and took first, and the custom trophy I made for the event.

With updated info, we will be running seasonal setup, with monthly events, quarterly tournament pack ones, and a winter main event with an actual store pack.
