I recently picked up Star Wars Legion, at the urging of my son. He had played it at a miniature night at the Nerd Store in Greeley, while I played my league X-Wing game. He was also in the league, but had a bye. Afterwards, he was hooked, and we searched around looking for more Clone Troopers for him to add to his force. I had picked up a box of Imperial Storm Troopers long ago, when we were trying to play the Edge of the Empire rpg, so I tried a game with them. It seemed good, but I had no interest in Empire. However, the Shadow Collective has been recently released, so I grabbed a starter. And then another. Managed to play 4 or 5 games, one of them even at the standard 800 points. So, what was the obvious next step? A tournament at Tacticon, of course.

Webway to Tacticon: Mission Completion!

Having broken the spell of the Tau, I managed to get back to work and finish off all I had that I can currently finish.

This leaves me with the Baron and the three headless Hellions. I am, however, contemplating redoing my force icon. The black dagger just doesn't show. I also think I need to come up with some unit markings. These will likely be "ghost" symbols on the bikes' "wings." By ghost, I mean markings that are barely off of the color of the wings now, making them almost unseeable from a distance, but a cool effect up close.
Tomorrow, I plan to put these bad boys on the table.

Webway to Tacticon: Curse the Greater Good

Forgive me dear reader, for I am weak. The Tau have arrived and they have slowed my progress this week. But today I managed to bring it back to focus. As you can see above, the guardians are ready. Tomorrow I will varnish them, 'ardcoat the gems, and do final assembly. You will also notice the Reaver riders in the back ground. They just need their metalics done, then they too will be joining their rides. After that, I just have to finish the Baron and the headless Hellions, and then its a waiting game to see if the codex drops.

Webway to Tacticon: The riders are coming!

On the table this week: the last of my jet bike riders. Both the Guardians and the Reavers, even though they don't need finished for Tacticon. I'm even painting a gunner from a Viper for no apparent reason. The plan is to have them all finished and on their bike by this weekend. That will leave the finish on the Baron, the Razorwings missiles(which may get done also), and the three headless Hellions. Not bad with 143 days left to go.
There is a speed bump though, the Tau are out. A new codex means a new distraction. Hopefully one I can over come. Though, I am already making plans to start in on my over abundance of unfinished Tau, after the Eldar are finished.

Webway to Tacticon: Piercing the Veil
So, no TMI this week, as I am out of town at my Uncles. A little R&R means no games played. I guess you all are on your own for tactical genius this week. As a bit of a tide over, here is the world début of my new Farseer Warlord. He is a combination of Eldar Autarch, Fire Dragon Exarch, Shining Spear, Guardian, and a jetbike. I really enjoyed putting this one together, hope you all like him.

Hopefully, everyone will get to see him on the table when TMI returns.

Webway to Tacticon: Riding High

Just put the finishing touches on my jetbike chassis, including my reavers. This means they are all but finished. I have to add the sigil to the banners of my Warlord Farseer, but other than that they are all done. Tomorrow I will begin work on the riders. Once they are finished I can varnish and do final assembly and all will be done, except three Hellions waiting on heads and the Baron waiting on his sigil.
Of course, all of this is for the current book. I am thinking I may need to pick up a few more bike to make ready for a likely new Eldar book. It makes me nervous, but what choice do I have?

Webway to Tacticon: Hellions hath no fury

A quick double update this week. I managed to finish my Hellions that had heads and get them on the sky boards. I was just to excited to wait. I had thought these guys a ways off, and had started on the boards as a bit of a break, but when I came back to work on them I was pleasantly surprised that they did not have much left to do at all.
You can also see the Baron off to the right. He is currently getting his cape finished. I have finished the brocade on the top of the cape and am trying to decide if I need to do it on the bottom or not. Probably yes, sigh. Then its the decal, repaint, touch up, a couple details left, and he will be done, too.
I am really happy with how this army is coming and am getting fairly close to finishing the whole thing. I hope to be very close to finished by the next time I get to play in almost three weeks.
And since this quick post as turned rather long, I'm off.

Webway to Tacticon: More Hellions!

This is what has been on my paint table for the last week. I haven't been terribly productive, but I have been moving forward. As you can see, I have three more skyboards almost finished, and am almost finished with all my canopies. I am also making gains on the Hellions I had and the Baron.

I also have all my Hellions. These three are missing heads, as I am not using the Hellion heads, but rather the Reaver pony tail heads. So, until I get more of those, the riders themselves are in limbo. The boards you see here are the ones that are already painted in the previous picture. I managed to all but finish them on Friday. All they have left is gems and engine discoloration. I hope to have both done by the time this posts. This week I also hope to get the jetbikes painted and the canopies on. I won't get in any games next Saturday due to the warmahordes tourney and International Table Top Day. But, by the next time I play, I should have the actual bikes finished, and be well on the way for the riders.

TMI Does It All

I managed to get in several games this weekend across three different systems. I managed my first Warmachine win and some more losses, a rematch in Malifaux, and a 40K that was pretty close to tournament play in that I made some bad mistakes. Would you like to know more?

Webway to Tacticon: Issue 2

Here it is. I have a box of five hellions coming and I need to snag the cold one knights, and that will be my entire army. Still some work left to do, I have only really put in a bit on the Hellions I already have, but they are coming along. The points are apparently going to 2k, so that has brought a little problem.

Webway to Tacticon 2013

I get to play at Tacticon, so I am getting my Eldar/Dark Eldar force up to snuff. These posts are going to be a bit of progress log of the army as it comes together. At this last paint night I finally finished my Farseer's banner. Of course I need a second one, and I'm not real sure how I'm going to go for that one. I also put paint to Hellion, finally puching those guys past the limbo they have been stuck in. The boards are almost finished, and I am on detail work for the Hellions themselves. As you can see in the above picture, I have cut my display board. I am using a hardboard base with foam core on top, so I can sink my bases into it. I was hoping to have a lot of foresty scenic effects, but as you can see, I don't have a ton of room. It will likely have two or three trees, and a webway portal, though the portal will quite a bit farther forward, since I don't want much of the models to have the pure war zone base.
Well, that's the jist for now, hopefully I will keep this up with regular reports. Till next time...

Tacticon day 2

Ok, so this should have been posted WAY earlier, but who was gonna read it anyway ;-)

K, so day 2 of the 40K tourney, I am sitting 1 draw 1 lose. Not sitting pretty, 20 points, I think I'm running 2nd of the 3 guys from the store. I enjoyed both of my day 1 games, and both were against an army I had never played. Day 2 started facing Chaos, the army I play. Interesting. He is running 1 squad of oblits, defiler, a unit of noise, another of plague, 2 units of marines, landraider with kharne and some berserkers. I think I had this in the bag from the start. I played well, killed what I needed to, its a favorable match up, and he held his defiler in the back for fear of the oblits. Drew C&C, I won everything else. Great opponent, great game.
Game 4, versus vanilla marines, and here the fun ends. Dual landraiders with termies, razor spam. Went almost all reserve, deploying a single devestator squad, or rather half of it. First turn I wipe the devs off the table, second turn his razors come in, raiders do not. This is good for me, if I can take them out, I can take my time on the landraiders. Immobilise one, stun the other that flanked, the one that came in his edge just sits there the whole game. Spend the rest of the game much the same way. Turn 5 is a draw, 6 I'm hanging on, but of course it goes to 7 and I get tabled. Not a good opponent, argued everything, I was wrong once. Apparently he had a history at the old store of being a not so fun opponent.

Game 5, versus Nids. He is running horde, hormagaunts, termagaunts, ravenors, terranifex, 3 single zoanthropes, hive tyrant. Lots to kill, likely more than I could. The main problem was that I had never seen ravenors ran effectively. I think some better target priority there would have helped, they are what beat me. Everything else I dealt with or hit me late enough to just be a nuissance. Also, not a real enjoyable game, and tabled me top of 5.
At this point I was kinda in a grumpy mood, and since I was already planning Malifaux at Genghis Con, not planning to be back I'm February. With wrecking crew running things, I don't think I will be alone. WOO, more people for Malifaux.

Day 1 Tacticon 2011
Day 1 is done. It went alright, with a draw then a loss. Game 1 was against Eric with Dark Eldar this time. He was the player I played round 3 at Genghis. Another good game, coming down to the final turn. I took kill points, he took capture and control, and we tied seize ground. My first game against DE was enjoyable, and my second game against Eric.
Game 2 was against Adam Tricola, a good player, usually runs Space Wolves, but took DE this time. I saw the postings and knew I was in for help of a battle. He did not disappoint. I fought hard, but too many targets and no mistakes to take advantage of left me unable to score any points. I truly enjoyed this game as well, and it showed I lack against horde anything. I hope to make top tables again to play Adam, he usually isn't in my neck of the woods.
Looking forward to tomorrow, being firmly in the lower ranks, I don't have to care as much, and can just play the fun. If my opponents follow suit, I will be in good shape.
How many DE can you shove in one corner?

Tacticon Day 2 - Warhammer Fantasy
This tournament could have gone better. I finished 10th, but there were only 18 players. Still middle of the field, which was my goal, and saying 10th sounds nice. I should have done better, finishing painting would have given me at least 9th. Having played my first game to completion would likely have given me many more, but more on that later.

No Fear!
So, I threw down against two armies this last Saturday. The first was a heavily mechanised Salamander Army. I lost, but I think I would have done better had he dropped one of his pods first turn, because on the second turn my Terms had nothing to do and just kinda hid in my back field, which didn't matter, because they got hit and fled off the board. With my sorceror. My DP managed to bring some hurt, Wind of Chaos is pretty awesome. In the end, I placed my objectives to far foward, thinking I would invade. Just couldn't get in there.
The second game was also a lose, but was against IG Leafblower wannabe. His heavies were all Leman Rus Exterminators(I think, plasmas). Held everything in reserve, and had second turn. This meant I survived 2 turns with 0 loses. Which made me able to turn to the peanut gallery and say "Told ya I would last past first turn. And then I screwed up. BIG! Almost everything dropped in second turn, save pne unit of Sons in their Rhino. My DP dropped beside the Russes, all lined up perfect for two Winds of Chaos on two of the Russes. Resulting in only them being shaken, but no shooting from these... SWEET. My Obliterators dropped in behind, and my Terms dropped behind his circled Chimeras and some troops. A couple blams and I would be rolling. Except, I forgot. With both. I had it in the bag, could have popped the last Rus with my Oblits in twin linked melta range, cutting the Russes to two that couldn't fire, and continued to wreak havoc next turn. I could have fired on the unit(though in hind sight a chimera may be a better target, don't know) maybe even sending them off the board. Instead, both units then took heavy fire and damage, and put me back on the back foot.
My setup and strategy were sound, I just failed to pay attention, and payed heavily.
Though I lost both games, I learned plenty. I did drop Bolt of Change on my Sorceror for Winds of Chaos. The multiple shots, and ability to at least glance bigger vehicles, possibley multiple bigger vehicles, is just to good to pass up. I feel that my list is pretty strong. Not uber, garuanteed win strong, but fun not getting blown off the table strong.
My biggest worry is my Tomb Kings. I am well on my way to no games with a new list AND a new system. I think I am just going to have to play games with my self. Awesome.
