Pulling Out the Relics

A rather diverse weekend for me, partly due to some awesomeness at Hobby Quest in Longmont for their Army Amnesty Day, the day after Christmas. First up was Malifaux, then I got a steal on some Relic Knights models, finally finishing out Saturday, being true to my word, with some of the hated Fantasy.

Return of the 40K

After a bit of a hiatus, I picked up my larger force of unfinished models, and once again dived back into Warhammer 40K. As much as I think the new edition hurt the hobby, I still enjoy it. It is the edition for my Chaos, as they seem to be the most fun right now. I didn't really enjoy the games with my Eldar, and the Dark Eldar got a heavy tweak in their new book, so I have no idea how that will go down. I haven't tried my Tau, but I have had a strange aversion towards them since I mostly put them down in fifth. Well, enough rambling, on to the game.

A tournament win!

Over the weekend, we had the tournaments for both the DzC and Malifaux leagues. I ran the Dropzone tournament, so not much to report there, other than I thought it went off really well, with the only snag being attendance. The Malifaux tournament was also small, but we played four rounds anyway. That, I think, went really well. I didn't see any bad games or upset players, so that is truly awesome.

Two leagues finished strong

The Nazca finish the Drop Zone league on a win, and Taelor and Nothing do the same. I played my final games for both leagues over the weekend, and managed to win both. And, I think to a degree, crush my opponents' hopes and dreams. But I'm just awesome like that.

My Shaltari meet with some Resistance

I grabbed two games this last Saturday, both versus Andy's Resistance, and Jim joined in with his PHR for the second one. Those Resistance Free Riders are really nasty. Don't believe me? Read on to see why.

Monday, November 24, 2014

Can we blow it? Yes we can!

Okay, so I am not unbeatable at DzC, but I am doing fairly well. Well, I was until Saturday, when I single handedly crushed... myself. Yep, I scored a loss due to a stupid mistake on my part. One of those "What the F was I thinking" moments. Oh, and I did pretty terribly in the Malifaux league on Sunday.

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

Seriously, anybody but PHR

Thank goodness I didn't say you couldn't play the same faction in more than two game in any four, because this is getting out of control. Another three games versus PHR under my belt for this week. It doesn't help that five of the twelve league players play PHR, but come on.

Accused of WAAC

Participating in two leagues at once is pretty awesome. I managed to put in three games for the DzC league on Saturday and got in my first game for the Hardcore Malifaux league in Longmont on Sunday. I may have a chance at the DzC league, but I am unlikely to get much for the Malifaux league. I only got in one game versus everyone elses three. I just show up too late. I did, however, manage to do a "pretty dick" move in one of my games. See if you can spot it.

I'm a dirty, Crooligan thief

And proud of it. But we will get to that later. First up, the Dropzone Commander league started on Saturday, and I am off to a smashed start.

Shaltari get Scourged

I managed to get in a quick week day game versus Troy's Scourge. Yeah, I thought he was dead, too. Anyway, he was running his starter box, so I pulled out a list I wanted to try, trying to shoe horn in two Yaris, since they have been performing so well. And just to make things interesting, we rolled Battle Royale, aka, kill points.

Double tap of PHR

Managed to get in two games of Dropzone over the weekend before we jumped into Deathwatch. My first was a 1000 pt game versus Nabors's PHR, the second was versus Shea's brand new PHR. So basically grey PHR then white PHR. Hey, at least I brought some color to the table. With their blood. Oh, wait I play Shaltari.

The Nazca march to war

On Monday, I was able to get in another game versus Nabors. In order to try a abate his constant whining, I built a pink foam proxy Jaguar so that we could play a 1000pt game, and he could bring his Hades. We played Search with 32 possible objectives, of which 5 were real. I am pretty sure that we played 7 turns, but I didn't pull out my turn die for this game, so I relented to Nabors's judgement.

We are deep into the Dropzone, Commander.

This last Saturday, due to some strangeness in my work schedule, I was at the club at 1:30. Which meant I was able to get in 8+ hours of gaming before I finally went home. All of it was spent playing Dropzone Commander.

Feast wasn't that bad

Actually, I had an awesome time. There was some misinformation that had colored my view going in, and to be honest, I thought, more than once, of not even going. But Jules is my friend and I had already paid, so I headed down Saturday morning. And I am glad I did. While I mostly left the con as a whole to itself, where I did venture was awesome. I can't give any 40K or Infinity run downs. I could see Infinity from the Malifaux tables, but I never went over. I also didn't go anywhere near the 40K stuff, and avoided the Warmableh like the plague. I did see some notable 40K players(ex-40K?) over in the Warmahordes section, for what that may mean. Read on for the games.

Introducing the Nazca Shaltari Tribe

Yeah, that's right, I named my tribe after a bunch of head hunters who drew giant lines in the sand that you can only see from the sky and made really fancy pottery. What? Now, if only I could make 10mm scale skulls.*Maniacal laugh*

As of now, all I have left is detail work. Which, at 10mm scale, is in fact work. This stuff is tiny. But I am liking how the army is turning out. And, considering I have turned out an army in a week, I think it is going pretty well.
Read on if you want to check some unit shots.

Move over Malifaux, Dropzone is here!

Okay, so not quite that drastic. I am still playing Malifaux, and hope to get in a tournament this weekend. Especially since I have already paid for it. But I am also really getting into Dropzone Commander. I picked up a starter and a rulebook and already have them mostly painted(not the rulebook) and more models on the way. I have even snagged three games, and since Feast kindly moved the Malifaux tournament to way late, I, hopefully, can get some demos in with the creator. But, on to the games.

Alyce Rocks it Out

I managed to get in three games(well, 2-1/2) this weekend using my Feast Henchman tournament list. The list is an iteration of my previous Henchman Tourney list.
Rusty Alyce - From the Aether and Desolate Soul
Ashes and Dust - Oath Keeper
Desolation Engine - Oath Keeper
2 Abominations
3 SS
As before, I am super happy with the list. I also think my scheme choosing is improving. Let us just hope it can continue doing so at the event.

Lots of games AND a tournament

On the gaming front, it has been really quiet around here lately. It has been quiet out there for me as well. Since my last game post, I have had one game of Bolt Action, versus Nabors, using my own SS Germans list, which I won. And that is about as far into that as I plan to go. This weekend, however, the drought ended. In a flood. A flood of awesome.

Tale of a Tardy Malifaux Blogger - Part 3

I have made a fair amount of progress on my Misaki crew, centered almost totally on the bases. As you can see above, they are all almost finished. Water effects and static grass is all they await. Missing, however, is Ototo's base, which is currently in the freezer, cooling the Sculpy before I take it off and bake it. Soon, I plan to have that painted as well. Then I need to force myself to start painting the actual models again, so I have something to put on them. After that, GAMES!

Tale of a tardy Malifaux blogger - Part 2

This last weekend was paint night down at Hobby Town. You all really should come, its a lot of fun and some times we even get stuff accomplished. Such as, I don't know, say, Shang. While I didn't get him completed that night, I had a very good start and was able to finish him early this week. It also helped me get back into the painting groove. I haven't painted anything since last spring, when I painted up my never played Inquisimunda crew.

Tale of a tardy Malifaux blogger - Part 1

As some of you may have seen, there was a Tale of Malifaux Bloggers a while back. For those that don't know, basically it was a way to show how easy and cheap it was to get into the game. At the time, there wasn't a crew I was interested in buying, nor did I want to fork over the cash. However, I recently acquired a free Misaki box and after some deliberation and trying to sell it, I decided to keep it, since she is Outcast after all. I had originally thought her play style similar to the Viks, but have since decided she is less glass canon and more movement shenanigans, which is slightly different from my other crews. So, why not give her a shot. Aslo, I plan to go over board with paint and basing, taking influence from Mako's Misaki and the story about her and Ototo in Wyrd Chronicles 13. The bases will be based on her garden where the meeting took place, and the "energy" attached to her foot will be water from a pond as she stands on a lily pad. I plan to enter the whole crew int the unit category at Genghiscon, so I hope you can expect awesome things.

So, back to the tale. As I go along, I hope to document both my paint progress and my game progress. While the painting is just to show off, the gaming, for me, will be the interesting part, blogging wise. I haven't seen a terrible ton on playing Misaki as Outcasts and I am interested to see just how she works with non-Last Blossom models.

I hope many of you will enjoy the ride along with me.
Until the tale continues, good night.

Turns out, I have too much focus

I threw down three games a couple of weekends ago. 40K and Malifaux versus Nabors and X-Wing versus Paul. The Malifaux and X-Wing games were tandem like some sort of chess master... Only more awesomer.

Two weeks, three games, one freak out

Okay, so this is a bit old, but I thought I would push it out anyway.

Okay, so he didn't technically but it makes a good title. I have been a little quiet over the last two weeks. Finishing up summer and all that. But I did still manage to get in some games(of course). The week before last was Malifaux demos followed by a quick game of X-Wing. This last weekend, even after being stood up, I still got in a game of 40K.

Malifaux master spread

I managed to pull not one, but two games of Malifaux this last Saturday. The first was versus Patrick's Gremlins with Leveticus, the second was versus Mike S's Jacob Lynch with Tara. This means that in my last three games of Malifaux I have used three different masters. This is ironic for me, since Second Edition moved towards making everyone able to use a single master, which to me broke some of the nuance of the system, but whatever. Yet, personally, I am spreading my master love more than ever before. But enough random thoughts, on to the games!

Curse you Flickr!

My deepest apologies. My phone no longer seems able to upload pictures to Flickr. This leads to me not posting, since I don't like posting without pictures, especially when I actually have them. The last few weeks have been rather heavy with games. I have been playing Malifaux, 40K, X-Wing, and I even threw down Fantasy versus the kids. I also got in a game of Evil Baby Orphanage versus a couple good looking girls. And unfortunately their dad as well, so you know.
I do feel that I should, as a public service announcement state that I am catching up on several games which include 25 picture. It's long, very long. Though I will just synapse the games.

Abominations versus Swine

What is this? Another battle report with pictures? With pictures? Yes, yes it is. Though, the turn two picture was lost to the corruption of the warp or something. I play a game versus Patrick, and this time he pulled out Gremlins. By pulled out, I mean the cards. He proxied them using his standard Ressers, though I think he should pick them up, he seems to enjoy them more.

Friday, July 11, 2014

Now with pictures!

I managed to snag a game of Malifaux versus Patrick on the Fourth. We had a time constraint due to the store closing, but managed to bring the game to an almost full conclusion. It was a good game that forced me to make hard decisions all the way up to the end. It was 50ss, he ran Nicodem and I ran Leveticus.

Double table, double weeks ago

So, it has been a couple of weeks since I posted. I did manage to get some games in, including a small unit bash of Fantasy versus my kids last weekend, and a truck load of Pokemon against the same bad influences. But that's not what you all want to hear about, except that they trounced me in Fantasy. No, you want to hear about two weeks ago when I played both 40K and Infinity.
Well, read on.

Down to a Heldrake

Even though I missed last weekend due to family awesomeness, I did manage to get in a game on last Thursday versus my now only opponent, Shea. He once again brought out his Orks, this time with a Truk heavy list, with two Battle Wagons with Nobs. I brought back my CSM list, now completely devoted to the Black Legion, but sans Cultists, add Las Pred. I also moved the Chosen from mixed squads to pure weapon squads. I wasn't super happy with the list as a whole, but it did give me plenty of food for thought. It also turns out that I could use an opponent that lets me make more mistakes.

Headless Heldrakeman

What does every headless horde need? A headless Heldrake rider of course. That's right folks, I now have(most of) a rider for my Heldrake #1. I still have a lot of work I want to do on him before I even think paint, but I am happy with how the rider has come out so far. I'm still torn on the bat winged helm on a flying dragon, but we shall see. Maybe I will order the sets for my ground troops, then do a test fit before I order the set to finish the Heldrake. It also kinda stinks that I have to get 10 more head and shoulders to finish two Heldrakes. The flip side is that I won't likely drop these bad boys in public any where beyond Hobby Town, until I hit a Con, which will likely increase in size when we stop running them. As I mentioned earlier in the week, I already have 100 points to spend, another 100 to 250 could definitely use 8+ more heads.

Stuff to ponder.

Accidently Unbound

So, I manage to get in another game versus my new "regular opponent" Shea. This time it was his Orks versus my Night Lords. Bom bom bom. After some thought about how 7th has changed some things and the effect on my Night Lords force, I decided they could be fun and even functional this edition. It will take more testing, and I have to make some changes, but after this game, I am hopeful for a chaos come back.

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

SILENCE! I kill you.

As some of you may have noticed, or pry not, I have been fairly quiet as of late. I blame 7th edition 40K. No, actually I blame May. With everyone having other things to do, there was no late gaming, and I had to fight to get games, and I'm not much of a fighter. But I was able to break the drought the Saturday before last and get in a game of the new edition of 40K. My opponent, Shea. My army, Eldar with Dark Eldar allies. His army, Orks. Outcome, well, I guess you will have to read on.

Worst Henchman Ever takes home loot!

I wasn't able to get any games in on Saturday, due to graduations, jobs, and other life problems, but I did head down on Sunday to a tournament in Longmont. If you haven't been, you should go, Hobby Quest is a great store, and Jules puts on an awesome event. But who cares about fun, lets get into how I did.

Holy Shamolies! Hobby Progress

Not much, but I did paint a little on Anastasia. Got some of her armor done. The wings will match. I like how she is turning out. Though, I am not sold on her hair. It may change, just have to see.

Sending opponents into possessed rage

I managed to blast through three games this past weekend, even with no late gaming. Two of the games were with my Henchman Bash list I am bringing next Sunday. I wasn't sure if it would work, but after two games, I think it can, though it will be heavily card dependent. On to the games!

Second Generation Awesome

As I mentioned previously, I didn't get in any gaming this last weekend. I did, however, stop by paint night, with the kids in tow. Above is Dylan's dragon, and below is Aidan's griffon.

I am super proud of both of them. I think Dylan is a shoe in for next years Young Blood competition at Genghiscon, especially with another nine months to practice. Aidan is still a little ways off, but he also has a couple of years to go before he is old enough.

As you can see, no pictures of my work. I actually did very little of my own. Mostly talked and handed paint to little painters. I did work a little on the Doctor. Hopefully he will be finished by Saturday, along with Anastasia and The Duke. That is my goal anyway. I am likely to miss this one though, as I will be putting in a lot of time on the tree house instead.

I am also starting to work on my list for the Malifaux tournament at Hobby Quest Games in Longmont on the 18th. Should be fun. It is fixed list and I want to be better prepared than the last one. So, both playing Malifaux and playing my list are in order. I am leaning toward a kinda dumb Rusty Alyce list. Not terribly strong, but should be fun, and may catch people of guard. Except for of course Troy, who will be my play test dumby, and will be going. yay.

New and improved hunting rigs

Not a lot of hobby progress lately, I have been spending a lot of time building a treehouse for my kids. I did, however, manage to squeak in a little time for my Inquisimunda models. Ricard is of course painted and Lady Anastasia, The Duke, and the Doctor are all ready to be. Hopefully, I will pick up Diamyo YuQing tomorrow, but I haven't heard from the store if he is in or not. I won't be getting in any standard gaming this Saturday, but I plan to take my kids down for Hobby Night. D is painting up a Shadow Dragon and A is going to work on a Griffon, both from the Bones range.

We are the champions!

Well, I am. I managed to get on my final league game before all hell and stupidity broke loose. I would still like to get in a game against Paul, just to seal the deal. I also think a rematch versus Dave and Mike S should be in order, now that they have a better grasp of the game. Well, Dave the game, and Mike S impetuous.

Hobbit with a Ray Gun

I may actually be good at this. I have finished Ricard, excepting his base. I had just set out to paint him to a high tabletop level, but I think he came out more. I was originally thinking that I would just paint the guns in a ode to Eldar theme, but then my made up "Hobbit with a Raygun" song got stuck in my head, and it was shiny all the way. I hope to field him tomorrow, so I will let you all know how that goes, but right now I need to head to work, so outs.

Inquisimunda continues

A quick blip of my "finished" Inquisimunda models for Ricard's and The Duke's hunting rigs, plus The Doctor. Ricard went way easier than I had anticipated. He basically just fell into place, and I am happy where he landed. I kept the original head. It is another "not enclosed power armor" model for my crew, but I liked the dynamics of where and how he is looking. I am still hoping to get them on the table this weekend, and the remaining two models are ordered and should be on their way.

A gameless Saturday

The Duke

So, no games played this last Saturday, very sad day. However, Patrick and I did roll up the experience and skills of our Inquisimunda crews. Most of my rolls were contrary to the models particular role, i.e. I have a very combat centric crew, which is strange since their equipment is very shooting centric. Ah, the well. It should be fun. I did roll plenty of wounds and toughness, so I should be able to weather at least some incoming attacks, which is a fear, since my crew is so limited on equipment and replenishing numbers. Also, as you can see above, I have made progress on The Duke. I have found him a head and legs and begun sculpting. It is a slow process for me, since I tend to sculpt something, then put my finger in it while I sculpt something else. Thus, I am basically sculpting, let harden for a day, sculpt something else. Not the fastest process, but hopefully will lead to fewer mess ups.

I have also picked the models for the rest of my crew:

Lady Anastasia

Daimyo YuQing

Regent Ricard

As far as sculpting for the remainder of the crew, Ricard will definitely take the most, and may receive a head swap. Ko Dali to Lady Anastasia will require turning head tentacles into hair, but little else. The Daimyo may get a bit added for the mirror shield, but that is likely all he will have done. I am fairly excited about the whole shebang, and hopefully will take The Duke and Ricard down this Saturday and proxy the other two for a game of Inquisimunda. I also will need to get in my final game for the Infinity league, which will come first, of course.

Well, that is all on this front, catch you all later this week, when I, hopefully, have a further update for my Inquisimunda crew.

Complex Progression

It has been a while, but I finally figured out the walls of my Complex board. I went with a white hexagon pattern over grey and off white. I think it turned out really well. However, I am now stuck on what to do for the floor. Also, I have to figure out a transition between the floor and wall, because the straight jump isn't working. Also, it would give me more strength to hold the walls on. Well, back to the grind, I have 10 boards with finished walls, the hard ones are left. I hope to update with some progress soon.
If anyone has any ideas for the floor, please drop them in the comments, thanks.

On a roll, right over Pan O

I played my fifth game for the Infinity League on Saturday versus Shane's Pan O. I had been worrying about this game all week. I was also excited about it. Pan O has been the hardest foe for me to crack, and my previous two games versus Shane were hard and close. I expected this game to be a tough fight, and I knew that even if I lost, I had to get high points to hold onto second, or I would likely end up in fifth or worse. To top things off, I am facing a Pan O TAG from across the table.

Mission Completion: Infinity

I have finally finished my 300 points of Infinity. The only Infinity models I have left are my Netrods, which may or may not ever get finished. Now all I have to do is win my last two league games. Easier said than done. Next round is versus Shane. He beat me a couple weeks ago with my 225 list. My 300 point list is running mines, so that should be interesting. I am looking forward to the game, but I need to be on it, or I will pay for any mistakes. The flip side is that if I lose, the pressure is off for game six. Sorta. If I can get three or four points, I stand a chance of sticking in second, possibly even still having a chance for first. If we draw.... Well, then the math gets screwy, but I should stay in first, provided I get enough game points.

The Return of Leveticus

I only played a single game last Saturday, but it was of Malifaux. Well, half a game anyway. I played a demo game versus Shea, who has finally come over to the dark side. He is looking at Arcanists and has already picked up the Mechanical Rider. As such, I had him play my Ramos crew, with the Rider, basically the new box set. I pulled out Leveticus. I drug my feet a bit to get this one started, I have been in a bit of a Malifaux slump lately. We played Turf War with no schemes. I mostly wanted to go through mechanics, and we had a limited play window. It did mean I ran a demo instead of participating in Paint Night, but we did have a few painters on site. There isn't much strategy or reporting, as we only finished two turns, but I will say that I was definitely revitalized by the game. I will likely be pulling out Leveticus again very soon. I do need to read through his finalized cards and get into that frame of mind, also looking at some of the other options I can take with him.

Well, a short one this week. I do expect to have some hobby progress later in the week, as I should have my 300 points of Infinity completed. After that I plan to work on the Corridor board, and hope to put some of that up. Yeah, the Corridor board, haven't seen that in a while. I think the last time we saw that was here. My plan for the wall didn't work out, so I am looking at other ideas/options. Hopefully that will work and I can post that. If not.... Skip it, I'm lighting them on fire.
