TMI: Malifaux Double Header
Another week, another double header. This time I went double Ramos, as I am really trying to give him a try and get him worked out. I am still heavily dependant on that first draw, but can do a bit better if I don't get it. I also ran a less construct more living crew, and found a bit of success with it.

TMI: It does it all!
This last Saturday was a whirlwind tour of all my current game systems. What else is there to say? On to the action!

TMI: Here it is!
I didn't even plan it! This last weekend was all Malifaux. I got two games in, both against Tom, both against his Kirai crew. I even took pictures, then promptly deleted them before they had finished uploading, so no pictures of game one.

TMI: Where is the 'faux?
Yes, sadly no Malifaux this last weekend, though I am all but guaranteed a game this coming weekend versus Tom. He stomped my Mei Fang crew a few weeks ago, in a game that Leveticus would have nom nommed, so I'm ready to bring out the Outcasts for this one. But enough of the future, lets dwell on the past, shall we?

TMI: Another Double Header!
I managed to get in another two day game fest. Fest may not be the right word, as both days were fairly light on games. I even managed to squeeze in a game of 40K.

TMI: Double edition
I managed to get in games over both Saturday and Sunday. Which was really cool, since I was late Saturday, and only got in a couple of games, including a loss as Nids on mission one of Space Hulk. I know, the shame is never ending.

TMI:And so it Begins(almost)
It has been a while, but I haven't been MIA, just not posting. I recently picked up some infinity, in prep for a new grow league. I chose Aleph, and have had 5 or 6 games. So, far, I am liking it. My list is a Marut TAG, a Dakini, and 3 net rods. A fairly simple list, with almost all of the power being in the TAG, but the Dakini has shown its usefulness on a couple of occasions, but more on that later. First, I want to go into my Malifaux game.

Some belated 'faux
So, on July 14th I played in a tournament at Gryphon's, ran by Frank. An awesome event. Only four of us showed up, but that meant that everyone played everyone. Especially cool was the fact that we all ran different factions, so it worked out for Dead Heat as well. As a bit of a spoiler, I took second, but dropped that in favor of winning Best Painted.

Or maybe it should be titled "I miss you, 5th Ed 40K Apathy."
I ran a faction tournament on Saturday, it flopped. Hard. Like a fish. Off a cliff. Over looking Hell. Over dramatic? Mayhaps. But it was bad. Only four players showed up and one of them was me. Two of them played a 40K game instead. Smoking. However, I did manage to get in a game versus Patrick and his new Nicodem crew, plus one of my crooligans.

State of the 'faux
Only played in one game of Malifaux this weekend. It was against Troy and it was Leveticus versus Lillith. I ran Leveticus, Ashes and Dust, Rusty Alyce, Hooded Rider, and a canine remains. He ran Lillith, an Insidious Madness, and two pairs of twins, basically the list that trounced my Viks last week. We had individual strategies, with mine being Turf War, and his being A Line In the Sand. Schemes for me were Breakthrough and Soulless Life, his were Grudge on the Hooded Rider and Kidnap on everything save the Ashes and Dust. This was my testing game for Ashes and Dust. While, I think I definitely could run him better, I can see his effectiveness. Is he worth 13 stones, we will have to see.
Turn one he of course rushes Insidious Madness up to a TNT marker on the side. I then proceeded to move up Ashes and Dust to try and get where I could smack him, but was just out of range, and had to use all my actions to move. Here is where reactivate from Alyce could be useful. Instead, I split them and use the extra move from putting Ashen Core in base towards the madness, and the Dust Storm on the table edge, close enough to hit and still in range of the core. I then tried to whack the Madness, but due to its special abilities, didn't do anything. However, turn two saw me get initiative, recombine Ashes and Dust, and use it to kill the Madness. On an objective strategy like A Line In the Sand, that is huge. Ashes and Dust then moved into his stuff to try and reek more havoc, but mostly was just a nuasance, who just died. The Ashen Core was left in the open, and unable to warp to a SPA before Lillith finished it off. The Dust Storm popped back by the objective that the Madness went after, and then headed for the far table edge, hoping to get there for Turf War. Everything else just delayed Troy's force and then eventually died. The game basically came down to Troy needing to light all the Dynamite with just Lelu and Lillith on turn 6. He was able to light 2, but needs 3 for 2 victory points. Turn 7 would have seen him get 4 markers, and send Lillith after my Dust and Breakthrough. Luckily it ended on 6. With both Lelu and Lillith on the center line, neither counted as being completely on my sides, giving me full points. We both snagged all our schemes, leaving the game 8-4 me.

State of the 'faux
Why can't I love fantasy?
I played a game with my Tomb Kings versus Troy's Lizardmen. I lost, rather soundly, but it wasn't a bad game. I didn't quit, I didn't even rage. My dice were definitely not hot and I still can't irresistible a spell, but that is what it is. For most of the game I just felt impotent. I did some damage, but nothing spectacular. I of course forgot to roll my wards after I finally got the spell off. All and all a meh performance on my part.
That, however, is not what I want to talk about. The problem I had was that it just wasn't fun. It wasn't a bad game, there just wasn't anything entertaining about it. Troy is probably my favorite opponent in any system. He tests me at almost every turn. This game, though, didn't have that. It was just motions. I don't feel any challenge from Fantasy. You don't need to figure out anything to play. You know the range, the movement, the weapons, the everything. It's a pretty board game. You can't misjudge a distance and be just out. About the only thing is a missed charge, which leaves you open to counter. But you will still be in combat, it just costs a point of static res. Oh, noes. There is a lot of talk about adding more morale to 40K, such as fear, but I can tell you, fear and terror can be all but ignored.
I guess I'm just not interested anymore, and I pray the new 40K isn't just rinse and repeat. Thank the gods for Malifaux, or I may not have anything to play.

Overpriced Eldar
Everyone says that the Eldar are too over priced for the current environment. I think the models are over priced for my current pocket book.
The current thought:
After listening to the Eleventh Company talk about kill point denial list, I got to thinking about the four kill point Drago list. At some point I got to thinking about Eldar. I think it stems from me thinking, first about moving to four Guardian jetbike squads in the team list. The idea being that I always have another unit to jump in. Then I got to thinking, what if I had a twelve man unit instead. Suddenly, I'm moving from easy, but fast kills, to a semi tough unit that doesn't go down as easy. Suddenly, I'm looking at kill point denial with Eldar Jetbikes. Is it possible? I plan on testing a 1500 pt list(actually 1390) as a proof of concept. Filling 2K will be tough, but I'm looking at an Autarch, Farseer, 10 Warlocks, and 3 12 man squads of guardians with Warlocks all on jetbikes. Which means I will need ~28 more jetbikes. Cha CHING! Would set me up nice for iron man painting though ;-)
My test list will be the Autarch, Farseer, smaller Warlock squad, two guardian squads. Hopefully, I will be able to give an update next week.

State of the 'faux
I managed to get two and a half games in over the weekend. The first was against a guy I had never played before. He ran Viks, I ran Levi. He ran Viks, 2 Ronin, Librarian and Misaki, I ran, Levi, 4 SPAs, canine, hooded rider, and a Crooligan. He charged straight at me, 'nuff said. Actually there was more game than that, but because I was able to kill a Vik early and spend the rest shutting down his tries to get her back, mostly by hunting Ronin, until other Vik died, he just couldn't recover. It was a matter of me knowing his crew and mine and him not knowing mine. Great guy, great player, I won't catch him again. Unfortunately, he will be leaving soon, so I won't get many more games against him, I could use the challenge.
Game half doesn't really count, as it was a start against Nabors and had to call on account of getting booted. He is learning though, just didn't make it far enough.
Game 3 was a three way against Troy's new Dreamer box and Nabors' Von Schill box. Seeing how it was Troy's first game, I went with the Ramos box. Very different play style. Ramos does not do well on the front line. Or without his minions. He did alright towards the end, not dying when he was supposed to. In the end, it was 0 for me, 6 to Nabors, and 5 to Troy. A good game, though the end was kinda boring for me, as Emission was paralised a lot and everything else was dead. But now Troy has been indoctrined, and now he must face Leviticus! Muahaha!!!
Now if I could only nail down a list for the league.

State of the 'faux: Tournament Edition
I was able to play the the Griffin Malifaux league final tournament on Saturday. I had a blast, met some new people, including a new Henchman, and got in some good games. In the end I finished fourth in the tournament, missing third by a point. Which, I would properly play the tournament system, I could have easily gotten, but I keep playing the game as a stand alone. More on that in game three.

I ran my first tournament on all the terrain I have been working on for the last couple months. It isn't important that I only needed half of the tables I have finished so far. It went well, I met a new player, talked into some broken Neberborn models for his Pandora crew, I saw a friend I haven't seen in a while, and I gave away a (unpainted) Sue model.(I know, slacking, but I have a lot to finish by Genghiscon)

The Challenge!
A couple weeks ago I challenged Shaffer to a paint contest. I could finish my new Puppet Wars board game minis before he finished his Space Hulk minis. He has had his far longer and is pretty far on his Space Marines, but hasn't started on the Genestealers. The bet was the money he owed me versus all his Black Reach terminators. It is kinda win win for me. I either get free terminators or I finally get to play Space Hulk and I'm going to paint my puppets either way. However, I'm not sure that Mike isn't cool with just giving me his terminators, making the whole thing null. Ah, well, they are my Iron Man painting minis, so I should know by February.

State of the Tau
Another slow holiday weekend at Hobby Town, but I did manage to get a game in against Troy. We played Scenario 3 from the preliminary missions for Genghiscon. Primary was seize ground, 5 objectives; secondary was kill points; tertiary was getting infantry into opponents zone. Deployment was pitched battle.
